JUTIES From the rich cultural land
of Rajasthan, India comes this majestic style of footwear called juties
or majoris. The richness of design as well as the quality of workmanship
is unequalled all over the country ...or may be the world. They are entirely
hand-crafted and sizes are always measured with the fingers. The process of production starts
with cutting the leather with a sharp knife both for the upper and the
sole. Stuck together with a home made glue, they are stitched with cotton
or leather thread. The upper is then embroidered by the women who perform
this delicate task with skill. A piping plain or colored is stitched to
the edge of the inside portion of the upper after the leather is dipped
in water to make it soft. It's hammered to make the stitching firm.
